I’m starting to really vibe with movies and tv shows that don’t have, like, a linear plot. Life just happens and it’s a bit messy and at first you’re like “who are these people? Why should I care? What the heck is happening?” But then soon enough I’m pulled in because I don’t know what’s going to happen, it’s not building toward an inevitable resolution, things are just happening.
Someone once said “A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit.”
But impatient old men grew trees of a different breed. Instead of planting seeds, they built chimneys to sprout trunks of smoke that branched and canopied the sky. They stole sun from the leaves and breaths from the lungs. The shade of which only children will die in.
Shout-out to my job giving me a raise even though I’ve handed in my notice already (I gave it two months in advance, and because it’s retroactive, I basically get two months of $1.40 extra per hour!) Special shout-out to my department head, who said “as always, remember this is private information and should be kept to yourself.” So, I nodded sympathetically and said “of course.” And then immediately went to my coworkers and we chatted about our raises.
